Boutin Returns to the Central Valley

Defenseman Shawn Boutin agrees to terms with the Thunder to return for his third season with the team.

The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders and AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have come to terms with defenseman Shawn Boutin per Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm.

“Shawn is extremely loyal to the team and is a good puck moving defenseman, so we are glad to have him back,” Kromm said. “He went through a tough stretch last season with the injury, but we look forward to having him healthy for the start of next season”

Boutin, 24, returns to the Thunder for his third season with the team after finishing his five-year QMJHL career with Val-d’Or Foreurs and a one-year stint with the CHL’s Arizona Sundogs. The Val-d’Or native is the all-time leader in games played for the QMJHL’s Foreurs.

The 5’10” defenseman has suited up for a total of 118 ECHL games in his career, all with the Thunder, while registering 5 goals and 21 assists. While Boutin scored his first ECHL goal during the Thunder’s run to the Kelly Cup in 2012-13, he registered all five of his regular season ECHL goals this past year.

Boutin’s 2013-14 campaign was cut short due to injury this past February. However, he did match his career high of 13 points in 20 fewer games, playing only 49 last season. He is the first player to resign with the team for the 2014-15 season.
