Delta's largest POST Academy graduation this Thursday

Stockton, Lodi police departments among hiring agencies

The largest-ever graduation from Delta College's POST Academy will take place on Thursday, with more than half of the 72 graduates already having been hired by law enforcement agencies across the state.

The ceremony is larger than usual thanks to the combination of two academy classes: an extended class that began in January and an intensive class that began in March.

Thursday's ceremony will include the swearing-in of new officers by 16 different law enforcement agencies. Locally, the Lodi Police Department will swear in nine new officers and the Stockton Police Department will swear in six. Another five will be welcomed to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office.

Media are welcome to attend Thursday's ceremony.

WHO: Seventy-two graduates of Delta College's POST Academy; representatives of 16 law enforcement agencies; keynote speaker Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones

WHAT: Graduation ceremony and swearing-in

WHEN: 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22

WHERE: Atherton Auditorium, Delta College

WHY: Delta College has played a pivotal role over the years in providing law enforcement agencies with highly trained officers to keep our communities safe. Students are sponsored by agencies and many are formally hired before they've even finished the academy. Thirty-eight of the 72 students in this week's graduating class have already been hired.

Interested in enrolling? The next intensive academy begins on Sept. 28 and the next extended academy begins Dec. 9. More details here.
