Local Government 101 Classes Offered

Presenters will be former and current members of government.

Want to learn more about special districts, schools districts, county government or city government from those who actually lead them?

Pacific's  Jacoby Center is partnering with the Center for Professional and Continuing Education at Pacific and Stockton's Good Government Committee to present ten lecture/discussions on the structures of local government in San Joaquin County and the policy challenges (water, education, public safety, land use, and economic development) it faces.  Robert Benedetti, political scientist and Executive Director of the Jacoby Center will moderate the series.

Each week different community leaders will offer their perspectives and respond to questions.  Former Stockton Mayor Ann Johnston, Delta College President Karen Hart, County Supervisor Steve Bestolarides, Stockton School Superintendent Steve Lowder, Deputy City Manager and former Executive Director of the San Joaquin Partnership Mike Locke. Delta Stewardship Council Member and former Senator Patrick Johnston, and Stockton Chief of Police Eric Jones, among others, will participate.

The series will be held Thursday afternoons from 4-6 PM at the Central United Methodist Church on Pacific Avenue, beginning on February 7th.  A fee of $125 will be charged and includes materials and the award of a Certificate of Completion for those who attend 8 or more sessions.

For more information and registration, contact the Center for Professional and Continuing Education, 209-946-2424.
