‘Signing Day’ to celebrate Stockton students

Delta hosts event for seniors moving on to college

College-bound high school seniors from all over Stockton will be honored Saturday at the Reinvent Stockton Foundation’s “Signing Day 2018” event at San Joaquin Delta College.

The celebration recognizes graduating students from any Stockton high school who will be attending a college, university or trade school.

Anyone from the class of 2018 is welcome to attend, but those who want their names in the program must register at stocktonscholars.org by the end of the day on Wednesday. Community members are also asked to register.

The event will feature celebrity guest Daveed Diggs, from the hit musical “Hamilton.” Scholarship winners will also be announced, including 20 students who will earn “Roses from Concrete” awards totaling $1,000 each, as well as three schools that will receive a cumulative total of $50,000 under the “Principal’s Challenge" for innovative ideas and learning initiatives.

When: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12
Where: Atherton Auditorium, San Joaquin Delta College
Who: Graduating seniors from high schools across Stockton will join Mayor Michael Tubbs and the Reinvent Stockton Foundation as well as celebrity guest Daveed Diggs from “Hamilton.”
Why: Saturday’s celebration is part of the Stockton Scholars program, a privately funded effort to provide financial support for high school graduates who are about to embark on the next leg of their journey in education.
