Fathers & Families of San Joaquin (FFSJ) will host the 4th
Annual Boys and Men of Color (BMoC) “Healing Generations” Summit, Thursday April 10 through
Saturday, April 12, 2014. The summit is significant in that it will highlight the frontline work of the San
Joaquin County Alliance site and will leverage political capital towards the advancement of the local
agenda to improve life and health outcomes of boys and men of color.
The Stockton BMoC Summit has established itself as a coveted platform to discuss the most pressing
social issues of our day as they play out in the lives of our local boys and men of color. Disparities in life
and health outcomes are most prominent here where young people ages 10 to 24 suffer a murder rate that
leads all other California counties at 21.29 per 100,000 - nearly three times the state’s overall rate of 7.87
per 100,000 for this age group. Of the homicides that occurred in the last 28 years, 72% were boys and
men of color in San Joaquin County; 92% were boys and men of color in the city of Stockton.
Highlighting Stockton’s pivotal position in the fight for social justice and racial equity, the San Joaquin
County Alliance for BMoC will be hosting a Boys and Men of Color Legislative Select Committee
Hearing on the first day of the Summit on April 10th, followed by a Youth Summit and a Heart and Spirit
Run.
Day 1: BMoC Select Hearing Committee: Thursday, April 10th, 2014 from 8-12pm at Health Plan of San
Joaquin, 7751 S. Manthey Rd, French Camp, CA 95231.
The Select Hearing Committee will convene with legislative members of the Assembly Select Committee
on the Status of Boys and Men Color. The hearing will address pressing topics pertaining to health,
educational equity, juvenile justice and workforce development.
Day 2: BMoC Summit: Friday, April 11th, 2014 from 9-4 pm, at University of the Pacific - Grace Covell
Hall, 3601 Pacific Ave, Stockton, CA 95211.

community leaders to shape and implement the agenda set forth among BMoC initiatives.
Day 3: Heart & Spirit Run: Saturday, April 12, 2014 starting at 6 am at Fathers & Families Youth and
