The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders and the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have resigned defenseman Ryan Constant who will suit up for his sixth season in Stockton per Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm.
“We’re really excited to have Ryan sign up again next year,” Kromm said. “He’s been a good leader for the team and he’s one of the top defenseman in the league. Ryan plays an all-around, solid game for us and has been a great asset to our community.”
Constant, 29, ranks second on the Thunder’s all-time games played list with 279 games under his belt. He also ranks fifth all-time in goals, second all-time in assists and third all-time in points.
The Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba native is coming off of the most successful pro campaign of his career despite missing 16 games. In 56 games, Constant registered 8 goals and 28 assists for a total of 36 points and was voted the Thunder’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Constant began his pro career in 2006-07 with the Charlotte Checkers and Hartford Wolf Pack before playing for the Thunder and Springfield Falcons of the AHL in 2008-09. The defenseman played two more seasons with the Thunder before heading over to Italy’s second division to play for Milano Rossoblu in 2011-12. Constant returned to the ECHL, and the Thunder in 2012-13.
