Arbor Day Celebration at Cortez Park

On Friday, May 20, 2016, at 9 a.m. the City of Stockton will celebrate Arbor Day at Cortez Park, located at 817 Erie Drive. City employees, along with the students and faculty from Parklane Elementary School, will plant 10 trees in the park.

Each year, Stockton celebrates its urban forestry program with an Arbor Day tree planting with the help of a local school, so students learn more about the importance of trees to the community. The City has been designated as a Tree City USA for over 33 years and joins more than 3,400 communities throughout the U.S. committed to managing and expanding public trees.

Since 1976, Tree City USA program has encouraged cities and towns across America to expand urban forestry programs. This nationwide movement designates a Tree City USA based on four core standards of urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.
