The Stockton Ports, in conjunction with Visit Stockton, have announced that Banner Island Ballpark will be the site for both the 2017 and 2018 California Collegiate Athletic Association’s Championships. The tournament was previously held at Banner Island Ballpark in 2013, 2014, and 2016.
The 2017 tournament will be held from May 10th-May 13th, with a practice day on May 9th, while the 2018 tournament is scheduled for May 9th-May 12th, with a practice day on May 8th. Championship play is for the six qualifying schools.
“The Stockton Ports are excited to be extending our partnership with the CCAA for another two years to bring this first-class event to Banner Island Ballpark in 2017 and 2018,” said Ports General Manager Bryan Meadows. “We hope to continue this partnership for many more years to come.”
The California Collegiate Athletic Association currently consists of twelve schools that can qualify for the tournament including Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, Cal State L.A., Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, San Francisco State, Sonoma State, and UC San Diego. Chico State claimed the CCAA title at Banner Island Ballpark in 2016.
“Banner Island Ballpark is one of the truly outstanding Minor League Baseball parts in the West,” said CCAA Commissioner Mike Matthews. “The CCAA Tournament is a goal of every team in our Conference and helps prepare them for the NCAA Championship. Holding the event at Banner island Ballpark seems to take the competition up a notch due to the terrific facility we play in.”
