Burns Awarded Offensive Player of the Week

Pacific Tigers Field Hockey

Senior Savannah Burns was honored as the America East Offensive Player of the Week today after her performance on the field this past weekend against Stanford and UC Davis.

Burns racked up six points in two games, one of which came when she dished a perfect pass to Hayley Kilfoil who scored against Stanford to help the Tigers pull away from the Cardinal, 2-1 on Friday.

On Sunday, the Somerset West, South Africa native tallied two goals and an assist in the 5-1 trounce over UC Davis. In her first goal, Burns showcased her ball handling skills and took the ball from beyond the arc and dribbled around the Aggie defenders and ripped a shot to the left of the 'keeper. Her second goal was an exact replay as she again maneuvered the ball around multiple Aggies and rifled in her 34th goal of her career.  Burns also set up Rylee Comeau with a perfect pass in front of the net to record her second assist on the weekend.

The six points she strung together this weekend brings her to 26 on the season and 99 in her career, which is good for second in Pacific history in career points.

Last week, Burns was also selected to play in the NCAA Division I Senior Game for her performance on the field during her four years as a Tiger. Only 38 seniors across the nation were selected to be participants in the senior game, and Burns is one of two seniors in the America East to be selected.

After the wins over the weekend, Burns has led the Tigers to become America East West Division Champions for the third straight year,  finishing with a 4-2 conference record.

The Orange and Black travel to the East Coast to take on #12 Syracuse and Colgate before hearing to Lowell, Mass. for the America East Conference Tournament, which is slated to begin on Thursday, November 2.
