City of Stockton Now Accepting Nominations for Naming Three New City Parks

Deadline for Submissions – September 30 – 5:30 p.m.

The City of Stockton is extending an open invitation to the public to submit nominations for names of three new city parks: an 11.5-acre park at the corner of Westlake and Scott Creek Drives, a 2.7-acre park at Valens Way and Orbison Lane, and a.69-acre park at Parliament Street and Skynyrd Way. The application period will remain open until 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024. Naming applications may be submitted through an online platform or a printable paper form – both can be accessed through the City website at www.stocktonca.gov/parks.

“Names may be recommended that honor outstanding individuals who are recognized or remembered for their service to the community of Stockton for over 25 years, or can reflect something about the geographic, topographic, or historical significance of the area,” says Kris Farro, Community Services Director. “We will review and consider all applications submitted for each of these naming opportunities.”

Nominations received will be considered by a Naming Committee. The Naming Committee is responsible for reviewing the submissions and making recommendations to City Council. The Committee is comprised of representatives from the Stockton Arts Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, Cultural Heritage Board, Public Works Department, and Community Services Department. Naming applications that are not selected for any of the new parks will be saved for three years for consideration in naming other parks, facilities, and property in the future.

All three of these new parks are located and funded through the Stockton Consolidated Landscape Maintenance Assessment District a program that provides funding for park maintenance.

For additional information or a printed copy of the application form, please visit www.stocktonca.gov/parks, call the Community Services Department at (209) 937-8206, or email [email protected].
