CodeHS launches an initiative to expand coding in Stockton high schools

CodeHS partners with the Reinvent Stockton Foundation, to launch Code Stockton, an initiative to expand high-quality computer science programs in Stockton, California schools.

In a technology-driven world, coding is now a foundational skill for students. Based on the US Department of Labor, between 2016 and 2026 there will be over 500,000 new computing jobs in the United States. Yet, only 40% of high schools teach computer science.

As part of Mayor Michael Tubbs exciting initiative to boost college and career readiness throughout the city of Stockton, CodeHS is proud to offer CodeHS Pro and professional development to high schools in this community for free. “We’re very excited to be partnering with the Reinvent Stockton Foundation to empower Stockton students to meaningfully impact the future. With extensive online resources and passionate teachers, our goal is to bring high-quality computer science courses to high schools in the city of Stockton,” says Jeremy Keeshin, CEO of CodeHS.

The Code Stockton program will provide schools free introductory computer science courses, online and in-person professional development training for teachers, CodeHS Pro accounts, and ongoing implementation support for the 2018–2019 and 2019–2020 school years. This is a free and opt-in pilot program open to any public high schools in the City of Stockton, or schools that enroll a significant number of students from Stockton.

Schools can sign up online before April 10, 2018 at CodeStockton.com.
