Community Theatre of Linden is very excited to start its 20016-17 Season of shows with an all-time favorite musical, “GYPSY!” This show tells the story of the burlesque queen, Gypsy Rose Lee’s rise to fame from the most unlikely beginnings. The force behind the story is Rose, the stage mother extraordinaire, who creates and chases the dream of being a Star Performer, but whose dream is it? The show’s music was written by Jule Styne with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The book was created by Arthur Laurents.
Martin Lehman, having so many memorable roles at Stockton Civic Theatre, University of the Pacific, That’s Showbiz, and elsewhere directs his first CTL production that boasts such musical hits as “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Small World,” “Ya Gotta Have a Gimmick,” “Together Wherever We Go,” “Let Me Entertain You,” and many more. Playing role of Rose is Cynthia Dario-Good. “Gypsy,” whose name is Louise, is performed by Bryn Merrill, and her talented sister June is portrayed by Sierra Fraser.The dependable Herbie, the show’s love interest for Rose and stand-in father for the girls is played by Scott A. Minor, who has been seen on SCT’s stage many times.
