Community Volunteer Erna Murphy Honored by Stockton Opera Guild

Stocktonian Erna Murphy has been recognized by the Stockton Opera Guild for outstanding service as a community volunteer.  Mrs. Murphy was saluted by the Guild as “A member of our community who has tirelessly, and always with a smile, offered her time, talents and strength to ensure that live opera, remains a vibrant part of Stockton’s art offerings.”

Mrs. Murphy received the honor at “The Curtain Goes Up,” a November dinner and musical program at the Stockton Golf and Country Club. The program also featured a performance by Yelena Dyachek, a winner at the 2012 Kathe Underwood Scholarship competition. “The Curtain Goes Up” benefits the Scholarship Fund, which supports aspiring young singers from the local community.

Honoree Erna Murphy has been a member of the East Bay Opera Guild and a Board Member of the Stockton Chorale, PTA, 4-H, boosters and the San Joaquin County Fair.  In 1988, she received the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Farmington Chamber of Commerce. She is active in California Women for Agriculture and Child Abuse Prevention Council.

During the presentation, Murphy also received Certificates of Recognition from the Stockton City Council presented by Diane Lowery, and from the State Legislature presented by Assemblyman Bill Berryhill.
