The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has added two additional weekend closures to “The Crosstown Big Fix” project. Construction crews found additional rebar and concrete work would be needed to complete two of the hinges on the State Route 4 (SR-4)/ Crosstown Freeway. The new weekend closures will take place on Friday, July 29, 2016 through Monday, August 1, 2016 in the eastbound direction and Friday, August 26, 2016 through Monday, August 29, 2016 in the westbound direction. The additional closures will not extend the project, which is scheduled to be completed December 2016.
One direction per weekend of the Crosstown Freeway will be closed at a time for rehabilitation. By performing weekend closures it will save 50 working days of construction and reduce lane closures from 140 days to 15 days. Interstate 5 and SR-99 traffic will be redirected to detours and alternate routes at SR-120 and SR-12.
Motorists coming to and through Stockton are encouraged to carpool and take alternate modes of transportation such as; walking, biking, or bus when traveling on weekend closure days. All downtown Stockton businesses will remain open and we encourage you to patronize them.
This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and construction related issues.
