Dalhuisen, Larson Assigned to Stockton

Thunder receive former NHL draft pick forward and fan favorite defenseman from AHL

The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders and AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers have had defenseman Mike Dalhuisen and forward Nick Larson assigned to the team from the AHL, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm announced Wednesday. It’s the second stint with the Thunder for both players this season.

Mike Dalhuisen, 24, quickly became a fan favorite, playing in the first 7 games of the season with the Thunder. The big 6’2”, 230-pound defenseman showed a penchant for scoring on slap shots from the point as well as dropping the gloves to defend his teammates. He recorded 5 points on 3 goals and 2 assists with the Thunder and also led the team in penalty minutes with 32 at the time he was recalled to the AHL.

Dalhuisen, who hails from Nijmegen, Netherlands, is in his first professional season after completing a four-year college career at Qunnipiac where he helped lead the Bobcats to a runner-up finish at the NCAA Frozen Four last year. He posted 0 points and 12 penalty minutes in 4 games with Bridgeport after being recalled to the AHL.

Nick Larson, also 24, will be looking to make his regular season debut with the Thunder in his second trip this year to Stockton. The Apple Valley, Minnesota native was in training camp with the Thunder and played in both of the team’s preseason games. While he did not register a point in either game, Larson did register the second most shots on the team with 7 while hitting the post on shots three times in the two contests.

Larson, a former 4th round draft pick by the Calgary Flames in 2008, spent four years playing college hockey at Notre Dame before making his professional debut with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen at the end of the 2013 season. In 17 games this season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, he registered 6 points on 4 goals and 2 assists.

Both players will be available for this weekend’s games as the Thunder finish off their current five-game road trip with a visit to the San Francisco Bulls on December 14th. The team then returns home to host the Bakersfield Condors on Sunday, December 15th. Fans can take advantage of the Thunder’s special Family Day deal, which features four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for just $38. Purchase that pack online and receive a Thunder hat at no extra charge.  Additionally, the first 2,000 fans entering the Stockton Arena will receive a special holiday-themed Brian Foster poster. Puck drops at 4:00 pm.
