Delta College trustees are sworn in

Three new or returning members to sit on board

Before friends and family, three new and returning Delta College trustees were sworn in on Tuesday night and took their seats on the College's seven-member governing board.

The trustees were sworn in by San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Jose Alva at the start of Tuesday's regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees. In addition to the trustees' own family members, many members of the Delta community were in attendance.

Here are the new and returning members:

New Trustee Charles Jennings, who recently retired from Delta after a long career as a music professor and dean, will serve Area 4, which includes Lodi and rural communities as far west as Rio Vista.

In Area 3, which includes north Stockton, Trustee Janet Rivera will serve her seventh term. First elected in 1994, Rivera is the College's longest-tenured trustee.

In Area 7, which includes Manteca and Escalon, Trustee Catherine Mathis will serve her second term on the Board.

The three will work alongside fellow trustees Steve Castellanos (Area 5, northern district), Teresa Brown (Area 6, Tracy), Carlos Huerta (Area 2, central Stockton) and Jennet Stebbins (Area 1, south Stockton).

Delta's Board, which meets twice a month, provides elected representation for residents throughout Delta's district, which includes most of San Joaquin County and portions of five other counties. The Board is tasked with approving the College budget and providing policy oversight, among other responsibilities.
