Join Delta College Drama for a good old fashioned Christmas story! It’s a Wonderful Life will be presented at the Tillie Lewis Theatre, December 10-12 at 8 p.m., and Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.
This delightful stage adaptation of the beloved film classic takes you on George Bailey’s journey as he reckons with the value of his life during seemingly hopeless Christmas Eve. With the help of a most unlikely angel, George is given a chance to relive his life. The reality of his impact on the small town of Folsom Falls is revealed, displaying what his existence ultimately meant to the city and lives of those he loved.
Director
Ashlee Temple invites you to “Travel with us as we play out this cherished story through a modern lens. This tale of love, despair and hope renewed still resonates in our time.”
This is Associate Drama Professor Ashlee Temple’s first semester and first play in the Delta College director’s chair. A Yale School of Drama grad, Temple says the play is actually much shorter than the movie. “I have added some scenes back from the movie to make the story clearer. I also updated the play to modern times and set it in the Central Valley.”
Temple, who has directed plays such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Stage Door, On Golden Pond and Driving Miss Daisy, says she enjoys directing plays that feature “strong ensembles with actor’s playing multiple roles. I also love working on plays that feature and explore language, such as Caryl Churchill and Tom Stoppard.”
Temple loved working with the students to create the world of It’s a Wonderful Life. “I would like audiences to leave feeling that the story and themes of the play are timeless and just as relevant today as they were when the film was written 70 years ago.” Ashlee Temple finishes, “Don’t miss this holiday treat for the whole family!”
