Emergency Food Bank Board of Directors Announces New CEO

The Board of Directors is very pleased to announce that Mary Ann Lucero has accepted the position of CEO at the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton/San Joaquin (Food Bank). Mary’s first day at the Food Bank was May 13, 2019. Mary has 12 years of statewide non-profit and program management experience, including serving as the Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Utah where her position encompassed everything from strategic program planning, public relations, system-wide collaboration, fundraising, extensive project management, legislative program policy creation and community engagement. Within three and half years under her leadership the agency grew by 226% with no additional program funding cost. She has a proven track record of community-based achievement, demonstrated ability to identify an issue, and collaboration with system partner stakeholders for a lasting solution.

“I believe that under Mary’s leadership, the Emergency Food Bank will begin to realize its true potential as a partner engaged in the difficult but rewarding work of serving those in our community who need a hand up,” said Susanne St. Clair, Chair of the Board of Directors.

Mary holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Weber State University and a Master of Public Administration from Southern Utah University.

When asked why she sought out the Food Bank CEO position, she replied “I want to lead an agency that assists as many historically underserved populations as possible.”

Following Mary’s hiring at the Food Bank, the Interim CEO, Gillian Murphy, stated “Mary has the heart, talent, and commitment to take the Food Bank to the next level. She is the perfect person for this position.”

The incoming Board of Directors Chair Steve Morales said, “With Mary’s guidance, the Emergency Food Bank will continue its passion for the service we provide, and compassion for those we serve. It’s a true honor to serve those in need in our community and Mary brings that same desire.”

Upon arriving on her first day at the Food Bank, she said “Let the adventure begin.”
