Free Financial Literacy Courses to underserved minorities in San Joaquin County

To provide free financial literacy courses and economic development programs to underserved minorities in San Joaquin County, Sus Finanzas delivers an innovative educational curriculum and monetary matching program specifically designed to instill sound financial habits and help immigrants and low-income families and individuals enter the financial mainstream.
 
Leandro Vicuna was born into a family who valued philanthropy.  In 1985, his father founded an organization known as Su Salud, a non-profit health organization dedicated to educating uninsured minorities about early detection and offering free medical health care screenings in San Joaquin County.  As a lifetime volunteer and former President of Su Salud, Leandro Vicuna experienced the value of making a difference and witnessed his father receiving the “1,000 Points of Light Award” from President Bush Sr. in 1991.   This truly inspired Leandro Vicuna to applies his financial and legal background to help those that have been ignored.
 
To encourage sound financial habits and stimulate economic development, Sus Finanzas has been providing a series of interactive no-cost financial literacy courses In addition, Sus Finanzas bankers from different financial institutions attend several of these courses to answer participant’s specific questions about their products and services.
 
To assist minority businesses and individuals to be successful in today’s economic climate, Sus Finanzas also works closely with the Economic Development Department by providing small business technical assistance programs via a myriad of workshops, courses and events that teach people how to access capital for their small business, create a business plan and achieve sustainable success.  Overall, Sus Finanzas reaches out to the entrepreneurial spirit of young and seasoned adults.
 
As an added incentive, participants who complete all stages of the educational program and deposit funds in their savings account at a bank of their choice for a period of six months will receive a corresponding match up to a maximum of $250.00 via our Monetary Matching Program.  Furthermore, participants who complete the advanced stages of our small business educational program are eligible to receive $1,000.00 as start-up capital to assist them in seeking micro lending.
