Motorists can expect a shift in traffic lanes on southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) from Alpine Avenue to Fremont Street for construction activities. The lane shift is scheduled to be in place for approximately two months.
The California Department of Transportation performed the lane shift on, Monday, June 27, 2016, after 4:00 a.m.
The #1 (left) and #2 (middle-left) lanes on southbound I-5 will be detoured onto the northbound traffic lanes of the interstate. Southbound #3 (right) lane will be for access to Monte Diablo and Fremont Street.
The lane shift is part of the $46 million I-5 Rehabilitation Project. Crews are replacing the existing roadway, which will improve pavement life and provide a smoother driving surface.
Morning commuters should be alert to changes in the road the day of the shift. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.
This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and construction related issues.
