The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders and AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers has been assigned forward Kirill Kabanov.
The former 3rd round draft pick (65th overall) selected by the Islanders in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft joins the Thunder after starting the season with Bridgeport in the American Hockey League. Kabanov played in the Sound Tigers’ first two games of the season and scored a goal in the season opener against Wilkes/Barre-Scranton.
The 21-year-old Russian native played three seasons in the QMJHL before linking up with the Sound Tigers in 2012-13. Although his first professional season was cut short by a wrist injury, Kabanov posted 9 points on 2 goals and 7 assists in 32 games.
He finished his junior career with 42 goals and 64 assists (106 points) in 111 games played between the Moncton Wildcats, Lewiston MAINEiacs and Shawnigan Cataractes.
The Stockton Thunder open the regular season at home for “Opening Night”, with the unveiling of the Western Conference Championship banner on Saturday, October 19th at 7:30 p.m. against the Colorado Eagles at Stockton Arena.
