Leading Ladies, written by Ken Ludwig and directed by Richard Garvin opens June 5 for Community Theatre of Linden and runs until June 14 with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30pm and Sunday matinees beginning at 2:00pm.Performance dates are June 5,6,7, and 12,13,14.
In this hilarious comedy by the author of Lend Me A Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo, two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing "Scenes from Shakespeare" on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren't nephews, but nieces! Romantic entanglements abound, especially when Leo falls head-over-petticoat in love with the old lady's vivacious niece, Meg, who's engaged to the local minister. Meg knows that there's a wide world out there, but it's not until she meets "Maxine and Stephanie" that she finally gets a taste of it.
Leading Ladies features many new faces to CTL and at least one seasoned veteran that Mr Garvin is happy to work with. “Without new faces, would you ever grow? Would you ever become more than what you are? The only way that can ever happen is if you have new blood. New blood is always good, especially for a theatre.”
Garvin is also thrilled to be working once again with a former mentor. “My cast is wonderful, starting with the magnificent Judy Caruso Williamson, one of my drama teachers at Edison High School in the late 70s, so her and I go way back.”
The cast features actors from all over the region, many whom are new to Community Theatre of Linden. Alissa Renee Brown, Matthew Hobgood, Branndon Gonzales, Stefany Jarrett, Travis Blansit, Ken Fry, Josh Weibel and, of course, Judy Caruso Williamson will all be working hard to bring the laughter.
