Local U.S.Amateur International Boxing Association Champion to Compete
GABRIEL FLORES, JR. TO COMPETE IN U.S. AIBA Junior World Boxing Championship in September
Award-winning boxer Gabriel Flores, Jr. will be competing in the U.S. Amateur International Boxing Association’s Junior World Boxing Championship in St. Petersburg, Russia, in September. The 14-year-old Stocktonian, who has won nine national titles, is rated #1 in the U.S. “I’ll be competing to win the Gold Medal and be the #1 boxer in the world in my age group,” Gabriel said.
Gabriel’s transportation to St. Petersburg will be paid by Team U.S.A. Friends of Gabriel and of his father are planning a breakfast fundraiser to pay Gabriel’s remaining expenses and those of his father, Gabriel Flores, Sr., who is also his coach and chief mentor. ”My father taught me to think correctly,” Gabriel said.
The fundraiser will be held at 7:30 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2015, University Waterfront Hotel, Stockton.
The fundraising event, which is being sponsored by Karl Ross Post #16, will include a brief boxing exhibition by Gabriel Flores, Jr.
