McKinley Park Groundbreaking Ceremony

A Celebration of the Park Renovation Project - April 23

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the oldest and largest park in South Stockton – McKinley Park – on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. All members of the community are encouraged to join the celebration, which will be held near the pool house at McKinley Park, located at 2332 S. El Dorado Street. All members of the community are welcome and encouraged to participate.

“We are beyond excited to see this project begin,” shared Vice Mayor Kimberly Warmsley, who represents Council District 6, where the park is located. “I’m looking forward to the day when McKinley Park is active and filled with neighborhood children and families enjoying all the new amenities. This is truly a celebration – for South Stockton and the entire community – that you will not want to miss. This project represents an investment of over $15 million in South Stockton, which is monumental!”

Once completed the park will include a renovated swimming pool and pool house; new picnic shelters, ball fields, play area, restroom, basketball courts, futsal courts, and soccer fields; new trees, landscaping and updated irrigation; as well as path lighting, and updated parking. The anticipated completion date for all renovations is fall of 2025.

McKinley Park will be closed during construction. The closure will begin the week of April 15th.  Parking and the entrance to the ceremony will be from the corner of S. El Dorado and 8th Streets.

McKinley Park includes an area of just over 22 acres. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, McKinley Park was the site of the historic Stockton Municipal Baths which included artesian mineral baths and heated pools.  At the time, streetcars took passengers to the end of the line at McKinley Park.

“The park has such a rich history as a vibrant location and tourist destination,” continued Vice Mayor Warmsley. “We are all looking forward to the day when we can host sporting events and other activities in South Stockton, and McKinley Park is, once again, a destination.”

The McKinley Park Renovation Project is being funded by Proposition 68 grant funds, State Budget Act funding, Transformative Climate Communities Program, and Measure M Strong Communities funds.
