Approximately 2,700 lbs. of Rainbow Trout will be planted this week in preparation for the 29th
Annual Trout Bout on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at Oak Grove Regional Park in Stockton. The
event, sponsored by Duraflame, will feature 1,500 lbs. of one to two-lb. Trout and 200 lbs. of
trophy-size fish already planned for the tournament, plus another 1,000 lbs. planted by the
California Dept. of Fish and Game.
Oak Grove’s 10-acre lake will open at 6:15 a.m. on Saturday for the tournament, which kids age
15 years and younger can fish for FREE. The event is one of three annual fishing tournaments
presented by San Joaquin County Parks and the Delta Fly Fishers.;
The derby will coincide with the beginning of the Trout season at Oak Grove, where over 7,700 lbs. of
Trout will be planted throughout the season. Department fish plants will be from mid-November through
the first week in February. Aside from the Nov. 15th plant (Oak Grove Lake will be closed for
fishing that day), additional plants will be held in December and January. A 2,700 lb. plant is
scheduled to coincide with the 11th Annual Bob McMillen Memorial Tournament, set for March 1,
2014. In addition, random plants will occur without notification. For known plant dates, please check

There is no registration fee for the Trout Bout, however, a $5 fishing permit fee and valid CA.
fishing license are required for those sixteen (16) years of age or over. A $6 vehicle-parking fee will also
apply. All State Fish and Game laws apply. Participants must supply their own fishing equipment.
Prizes will be awarded in all categories (youth and adult competitions. Park gates will be open at
6:15 a.m., registration closes at 10 a.m. and the last weigh-in is at 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be
awarded shortly thereafter.
