The City of Stockton Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) is calling on all service providers and community members to participate in upcoming Community Engagement Coalition meetings. All Coalition meetings through 2016 will be held on a Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Civic Auditorium, 525 N. Center Street. Meeting dates include April 21, June 16, August 18, October 20, and December 15.
The first Coalition meeting, held on February 18, brought together representatives from Stockton non-profits, the Stockton Police Department, mothers of homicide victims, women transitioning from rehabilitation programs, San Joaquin County, school districts, banks, grassroots organizations, San Joaquin County Worknet, and University of the Pacific.
"The kick-off to the Coalition was powerful. The goal of the first meeting was to introduce and discuss how organizations can use our local resources,” said Community Engagement Coordinator Denise Manning.
Three committees were formed at the first meeting. Community members and organizations will serve on the following Committees: Employment and Finance, Housing and Outreach, and Education and Training. Each committee will share ideas and identify ways to bring Stockton together and start the conversation about preventing violence.
Consistent with the City’s Marshall Plan on Crime, the City’s Office of Violence Prevention will act as the convener to coordinate service providers and resources within the community through the Community Engagement Coalition.
