The Library’s annual community reading event – One Book, One San Joaquin – is hosting an Author Visit on Sunday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m. at the Janet Leigh Theater on the University of the Pacific Campus. The public is invited to this free event welcoming Cristina Henriquez, the author of the novel The Book of Unknown Americans.
Each year Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library’s One Book, One San Joaquin committee selects a book for all San Joaquin residents to read together and discuss. The selected title is available for any county resident with a library card to check out in hard copy or download to most any smart device.
The Book of Unknown Americans is about the family of a teenager that leaves Mexico to come to America with a single dream that this country of great opportunity and resources can help Maribel get better. However, in the journey of coming to America, a range of stories are woven into the pages, all of which are testimonials for men and women who have come to the United States from all over Central and Latin America. Their journeys and their voices will inspire and surprise you, and will break your heart, too. Suspenseful, funny and warm, rich in spirit and humanity, The Book of Unknown Americans is a new American classic.
The community is invited to attend the special Author Visit and meet Cristina Henriquez. The event is free and open to the public. We encourage families to attend and show their support of literacy, reading, and the art of writing.
Barnes and Noble of Stockton will have copies of Cristina Henriquez’s book available for purchase and signing after the event.
The One Book, One San Joaquin program is provided through the generosity of the Friends of the Stockton Public Library, Library & Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County, University of the Pacific, Friends of the Ripon Memorial Library, and Lodi Public Library.
