Pacific Field Hockey Plays on National TV this Sunday

Pacific Field Hockey is looking for some home state comfort this weekend, after returning to California from Pennsylvania on Sunday following a 2-2 road trip to the Keystone State. Pacific will open NorPac play as it faces off against the California Golden Bears on Friday, September 27th as well as Sunday, September 29th at Maxwell Family Field in Berkeley, Calif.

The Friday night game will be contested under the lights at 7pm while the Sunday game will start at 12pm and will be televised on Pac-12 Networks. The game represents the first time that Pacific Field Hockey has been featured on linear cable television in program history.

Coach Andy Smith said of the contest, " It is a great honor to get the chance to showcase our talents on national TV.  Games against Cal are always fun to watch and I am sure it will provide great entertainment for those watching at home."

The Tigers will try to prove themselves to the wider audience throughout the weekend, relying on senior leadership from Melissa Maultsby and Paige Counsman, who scored the game winning goals in Pacific's victories over Saint Joseph's and LaSalle, respectively last weekend.

Pacific will look to improve upon their defensive effort as well, as Cal has held opponents to 11 goals in seven games, there will not be much margin for error for the Orange and Balck.

Redshirt junior Andrea Earle, who has scored four goals and tallied an assist through the first seven games for the Golden Bears, leads the offensive attack for California. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Courtney Hendrickson has made 46 saves while starting all seven contests this season in goal.

After the two games in Berkeley this weekend, Pacific will next be in action against No. 6 Stanford on October 4th at 6pm on the Varsity Hockey Turf in Palo Alto, Calif.
