Pacific Travels to Iowa For Weekend Test
The Pacific Field Hockey team will head to Iowa City, Iowa for a pair of contests against Big Ten conference opponents this weekend. The action starts Saturday at 12pm as Pacific takes on Indiana at Iowa's Grant Field.
In the last contest, Pacific (3-8, 1-2 NorPac) was unable to overcome a balanced offensive attack by the then No. 6 Stanford Cardinal. Emily Tregoning scored off a penalty corner for the Tigers as Hannah Bettencourt and Katharine Egan earned assists. Goalkeeper Molly Macierz made five saves in the loss.
In the previous game, the Tigers recorded their first NorPac conference victory of the year in a win over California in a Pac-12 Networks televised contest on September 29th. The 4-2 victory included scores from Emily Tregoning, Paige Counsman, Nicole Laskosky and Sidney Brooks.
Saturday will be the first time any current Pacific player gets a shot at the Hoosiers, as the teams last met on October 25, 2009, a 3-0 Indiana victory.
Indiana returns 16 letter-winners from the 2012 campaign, including all Big Ten selections Audra Heilman and Hannah Boyer. The team is coming off a pair of losses last weekend to Michigan State and No. 17 Louisville. Hoosier Goalkeeper Maggie Olson set a career high in saves with 11 in the loss to the Cardinals.
On Sunday at 11am, No. 18 Iowa (6-5, 0-2 Big 10) will play host to Pacific. The game will be broadcast on the Big 10 Digital Network.
The Hawkeyes were an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament last year and have benefited from a team high ten goals from Natalie Cafone. Goalkeeper Kelsey Boyce has held opponents to a 1.58 GAA and made 39 saves so far this year. Ali Campos, the younger sister of former Pacific All-American Vianney Campos is a freshman forward for Iowa.
Following the trip to Iowa, Pacific will return home, playing the rest of the regular season schedule within Northern California, starting with a designated home contest against UC Davis on October 18th at 3pm in Berkeley, Calif.
