Pacific's Early Goal Holds Up For 1-0 Win At Loyola Marymount
The Pacific women's soccer team scored in the first three minutes and played great defense to earn a 1-0 victory at Loyola Marymount on Sunday, October 27. With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-10-3 on the season and 2-3-1 in West Coast Conference action. Loyola Marymount dropped to 3-13-0 overall, 0-6-0 in WCC play.
"We came out with a very specific game plan to match Loyola Marymount's strengths," said Head Coach Keith Coleman. "I felt we battled all day did what we had to do today to get a result. I am proud of our team for the consistent effort they brought to the game today. We continue to be excited about the team's growth this year and look forward to our opportunity at home Friday against Gonzaga."
The Tigers scored just 2:32 into the match, when sophomore Regina Manneh found an open spot between two defenders off of a corner kick. Sophomore Zarette Munoz-Aguilar set it up beautifully on the insert with her left foot. The Tigers outshot the Lions 7-5 in the first half, with six different players putting it towards goal. Munoz-Aguilar had two shots for Pacific in the first half.
The second half was back and forth for a majority of the final 45 minutes, though Loyola Marymount ended up outshooting the Tigers 7-2. Senior Maricela Padilla and freshman Sandra Padilla each tallied shots for the Tigers in the second half. Shannon Kent and Tawni Martino each had four shots for LMU. Tiger freshman goalkeeper Lena Perry had three saves. Loyola Marymount outshot the Tigers 12-9 for the match.
The Tigers are next in on Friday, November 1 with a home match against Gonzaga. The match begins at 7:00 p.m. and the Tiger seniors will be honored before it gets underway.
