Ports Announce Opening Day Roster
Athletics’ Top Prospects highlight the Opening Day roster
The Oakland Athletics have announced the Stockton Ports Opening Day roster.
The roster includes five of the A’s Top Prospects, as ranked by Baseball America, including outfielder Billy McKinney (#2), pitcher Michael Ynoa (#4), third-baseman Renato Nunez (#5), shortstop Daniel Robertson (#9), and pitcher Nolan Sanburn (#10).
First-round draft pick Billy McKinney will be making his Ports debut after ending the 2013 season with the Vermont Lake Monsters, where the outfielder posted a .353 batting average in 34 at-bats. McKinney started the 2013 season with the Athletics of the Arizona Rookie League, where he hit .320 in 181 at-bats.
Right-handed pitcher Michael Ynoa will be returning to Stockton in 2014. Ynoa represented the Athletics’ organization at the 2013 All-Star Futures Game and was selected for the Midseason All-Star Game while he was with the Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League. During his time in Stockton, Ynoa accumulated a 2-1 record in 21 innings pitched.
Other returners to Stockton include pitchers Josh Bowman (R), Ryan Doolittle (R), Omar Duran (L), Tucker Healy (R), and Jonathan Joseph (R), catcher Bruce Maxwell, infielder Wade Kirkland, and outfielders Bobby Crocker and Dusty Robinson.
Ryan Christenson will lead the team in his first year in Stockton, after helping the Single-A Snappers claim the first-half division championship and finishing with a record of 77-62. John Wasdin will also be joining the team in his first year as pitching coach, and the Ports welcome back Brian McArn as hitting coach. Travis Tims will be returning as the Ports’ athletic trainer, and A.J. Seeglier will join the Ports in his first year as the strength and conditioning coach.
Opening day is April 10th, 2014 vs. the Visalia Rawhide. Individual tickets are now on sale at stocktonports.com, and the Stockton Ports Box Office is now open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm.
