Public Participation Meeting Cherokee Road Safety Project—SR99 to Alpine Road
Members of the public are invited to a Public Participation Meeting on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, to learn what is planned for the Cherokee Road Safety Project and to provide comments or concerns about the project. The meeting will be held at Waverly Elementary School, 3507 Wilmarth Road, Stockton, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a brief presentation at 6:30 p.m.
Maps, information about the project, and other displays will be available. Representatives from San Joaquin County Public Works, along with other specialists in engineering, environmental studies and right-of-way, will be available to discuss individual concerns and answer questions.
The project area is Cherokee Road between Ad Art Road and the SR-99 northbound ramps to the west and Alpine Road to the east. This segment of Cherokee Road is generally a two-lane rural highway with four-foot shoulders. Fourteen intersections are located within the project boundaries; one of which (Ad Art Road/SR-99 northbound ramps) is currently signalized.
The purpose of the Cherokee Road Safety Project is primarily to improve safety along Cherokee Road from SR-99 to Alpine Road by improving intersections and driveway access and by reducing vehicle speeds. Although traffic volumes are not high on Cherokee Road, accident rates are high at various intersections and on various roadway segments.
