Rescheduled traffic advisory Interstate 5 traffic shift from Fremont street to Charter way in Stockton: Traffic Advisory Interstate 5 traffic shift from Fremont street to Charter way in Stockton.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin shifting lanes the evening of Thursday, May 7, 2015.

Due to the current weather, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is rescheduling the shifting of the lanes on southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) from Fremont Street to Charter Way to the evening of Monday, May 11, 2015, affecting Tuesday morning commuters. The lane shift is scheduled to be in place for approxi-mately six months.

The #1 (left) and #2 (middle-left) lanes on southbound I-5 will be detoured onto the northbound traffic lanes of the interstate. Southbound motorists must stay in the #3 (middle-right) and #4 (right) lanes for access to the State Route 4/Crosstown Freeway and the Charter Way off-ramp.

Morning commuters should be alert to changes in the road the day of the shift. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

The lane shift is part of the $46 million I-5 Rehabilitation Project. Crews are replacing the existing roadway, which will improve pavement life and provide a smoother driving surface.

This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and construction related issues.
