Rescheduled Weekend Closures due to Weather
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is rescheduling the full weekend closure of the on-ramp from West Fremont Street to southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) and the northbound off-ramp to Monte Diablo Avenue because of weather related factors.
Work will now begin Friday, April 4, 2014, at 11:00 p.m., and continue until Monday, April 7, 2014, at 5:00 a.m.
During the closures, detour signs are in place and motorists should expect 10 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible. Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will alert drivers (including those traveling to Stockton Arena and special event traffic) to alternate exits.
Additional long term weekend closures of ramps will occur in the future within the construction zone. No two consecutive ramps are closed at one time.
These closures are part of the I-5 Rehabilitation Project, which is reconstructing the existing eight lanes of highway from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard/Charter Way to Country Club Boulevard in Stockton. The $54 million project, which began in May 2013 and is expected to be completed in 2015, will widen the inside shoulders from 5 feet to 10 feet; rebuild the outside shoulders and auxiliary lanes; and replace existing guard rail with a concrete median barrier.
This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials and construction related issues.
