The San Joaquin Engineers Council is pleased to announce Mr. Steve Essoyan, as the recipient of the 2017 Engineer of the Year Award.
Mr. Steve Essoyan is the Pacific Region President for Knife River. He has more than 31 years of experience in the construction industry. He was born in Hong Kong, attended elementary school in Beirut, Lebanon and middle and high school in Tokyo Japan
Mr. Essoyan has made Stockton his home since 1980. He began his career with DSS Construction Company in 1984, while still attending the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. Mr. Essoyan graduated from UOP in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with Magna Cum Laude distinction. Since then he has held various important positions at DSS and its successor, Knife River Construction. Knife River acquired DSS in 1999 and is a national construction materials and services company with operations in 15 states. Starting with DSS Company as estimator to progressively important assignments as, project manager, and chief estimator.
In 2003, Mr. Essoyan became, executive vice president of Knife River Construction and in 2004, President. In 2009 he took over as President of the California Operations. He has been President of the Pacific Region since 2012. Steve has served on the board of the Builder’s Exchange of Stockton, UOP’s CE Industrial Advisory Committee and the SOECS Dean’s Council.
Mr. Essoyan lives in Stockton with his wife Kathy and is proud father to son Eric and daughters Allison & Lindsay. Outside of work and family Mr. Steve’s interests include golf, skiing, surfing and ping pong.
The award will be presented to Mr. Steve at the San Joaquin Engineers Council Annual Engineer’s Banquet, starting at 5.30 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the University Center on the University of the Pacific Campus in Stockton. The banquet is held during Engineer’s Week, a nation-wide event recognizing the works and contributions of the engineering profession.
