Hundreds of adults and children turned out for this year's very successful St. Joseph's Fun Run/Walk for Wellness 2013 on Saturday, January 25th.
With numerous booths and health-related exhibits and information, the day started off right an enthusiastic spirit of participants eager to get started. From Seniors to children, the event was truly a family event with a focus on living healthy. Many parents pushed their little ones along the course in strollers, while others ran in teams to encourage each other to finish.
Once the run/walk stated, kids seemed to lead the way for a short time with only enthusiasm that youth can bring. That was until the serious runners made it to the front of the pack and off everyone continued along the beautiful course in University Park near St. Joseph's Hospital.
Jenny Cooke and Kristina Knudsen of the St. Joseph Foundation, coordinated the event with the help of a volunteer committee consisting of "The" Cathy Lagorio, Kris Dobbins, Pete Gibson, Annette Gail-Stone and Steve Morales. There were many companies such as In-Shape, McDonald's of San Joaquin County, Fleet Feet, and Diamond Foods that helped provide snacks and assistance for participants.
The race was a flat, double looping, 5km (3.1 mile) run/walk through University Park for people of all ages and fitness abilities. Nearly 400 runners and walkers enjoyed the event. In addition, there were many volunteers from different organizations plus many cheering students from the Health Care Academy of Stockton.
Proceeds from this year’s Run/Walk for Wellness will benefit the St. Joseph’s CareVan. St. Joseph’s CareVan Mobile Health Clinic provides health care services for over 4,000 low-income, medically underserved and vulnerable populations in Stockton. The CareVan decreases unnecessary hospitalizations including Emergency Department visits and assist patients in finding “medical homes”.
Thanks to all that helped make this a wonderful event and enjoy the Caravan photos!
