St. Mary’s Theatre stages The Hunchback of Notre Dame The award-winning St. Mary’s High School Theatre Department kicks off its 2016-2017 season with a stage adaptation of one of the world’s great literary classics, Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Written by popular playwright Tim Kelly, this compelling dramatization brings to life some of the most memorable characters ever created: the pitiable but good-natured bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, Quasimodo; the vain, handsome Captain Phoebus; the villainous Frollo; the temperamental poet, Pierre Gringoire; and the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda, whom they all love. All the famous scenes are there, from the rollicking Festival of Fools to the notorious Court of Miracles to the murder of Captain Phoebus to the lashing of Quasimodo on the pillory and the rescue of Esmeralda from her place of execution on a charge of witchcraft. Under the direction of Kevin Costello, St. Mary's Theatre has won Elly awards for Best Overall Production from the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance (SARTA) 4 of the past 7 years. Don’t miss St. Mary’s most epic adventure yet! The Hunchback of Notre Dame is rated PG.
