Stebner Returns to Stockton
Defenseman Brad Stebner, who appeared in 5 games with the Thunder last season, rejoin the Thunder blueline for the 2014-15 season.
The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders and AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, sign defenseman Brad Stebner for the 2014-15 season per Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm.
“I thought Brad came in a played well for us,” Kromm said. “He plays a simple and smart defensive game and really came as advertised. He’s a good young defenseman and we’re happy to have him back.”
Stebner, 24, signed an Amateur Tryout contract with the Thunder on March 25, 2014 after he finished up a four-year career with the Michigan Tech Huskies. The former Huskies captain appeared in 5 games with the Thunder before being released from his tryout. He finished his collegiate career with 29 points and 111 penalty minutes in 139 games.
The 6’4” 210 pound defenseman played junior hockey with his hometown team, the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (AJHL) from 2007-2010. Stebner posted 37 points in his final year of juniors and was a finalist for the AJHL’s Defenseman of the Year award, as well, as a captain of the North Division All-Star Team.
Stebner joins returners Ryan Constant and Shawn Boutin and new signings Tyler Maxwell, Ryan Howse and Shane Owen. The team has three defensemen, two forwards and a goaltender under contract for the 2014-15 season.
