Stocked Full of Music Song Contest

call for artists to enter the Stockton

Visit Stockton is asking local artists to show their Stockton pride by submitting an original Stockton song to the Stockton, Stocked Full of Music Song Contest. Artists who enter have a chance to win $1,000 plus four hours of studio time at The Press Recording Studio to record the song. In addition, Visit Stockton will produce a music video of the grand prize winning entry and arrange a public performance. Visit Stockton will also hold a fan vote for the community. The Fan Favorite prize winner will receive $500 and a public performance opportunity.

The entry window begins Monday, January 2, 2017 and ends February 26, 2017. “We are excited to engage with the artists in our community to produce a theme song for Stockton,” says Wes Rhea, CEO at Visit Stockton. The contest targets artists who are legal residents of San Joaquin County and have a connection to Stockton, CA. Rhea states, “The winning song will be an upbeat and authentic reflection of Stockton and its unique flavor.” The project had been on the Visit Stockton wish list for some time and with the overwhelming response to the first annual Stockton Arts Week in October of 2016, Rhea decided 2017 was the year to launch.

The following prompt is being given to artists:

With a healthy downtown resurgence, diverse and artistic population, active waterway, and welcoming business community, Stockton is full of possibility. Our beloved port city celebrates a rich history in agriculture and education while creating an even brighter future. We are a large, active city with an unexpected and appreciated small-town feel.

Stockton is not the first destination to engage artists in the quest for a song that best represents their unique qualities. Examples guiding the Stockton, Stocked Full of Flavor Song Contest come from Mesa, AZ, Lake County, IL and Traverse City, MI.
