As far back as the 1300s, poet laureates have been appointed by governing bodies to memorialize special occasions and events. In that tradition, the City of Stockton is seeking a Poet Laureate to bring poetry to the community and to foster an appreciation of poetry in the lives of citizens. The Poet Laureate will serve a term beginning July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016. This appointed position may serve for a maximum of two years with a stipend available.
Candidates with a connection to Stockton through family, history, work (produced or published), or other significant tie to the City will be considered. Qualified applicants will be interviewed no later than April 5, 2015.
Applications are due Tuesday, March 31, 2015, by 4:00 p.m. Candidates may apply directly or be nominated by a Stockton organization or resident.Interested individuals should complete the application package including a complete listing of published work and samples of work, such as poetry and literary compositions as directed.
