Opening Friday, June 19, and running through Sunday, July 12, 2015, Stockton Civic Theatre will present the international award-winning Broadway musical “Legally Blonde.” Based on the adored movie of the same name, “Legally Blonde: The Musical” features a peppy score and playful book and is very entertaining from start to finish.
Elle Woods, Harvard’s beloved blonde, takes the stage by pink storm in this fun, upbeat musical about self-discovery. She appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside-down, however, when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting serious about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her charm to get into Harvard, where she struggles with peers and professors. With the help of new friends, she quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.
The musical boasts an extensive cast led by Sarah Kellner as Elle. Other principal roles include Stephen Costello as Warner Huntington III, Christine Salazar as Vivienne Kensington, Ethan Albala as Emmett Forrest, Martin Lehman as Professor Callahan, and Melissa Esau as Paulette Bonafonte.
Director/Choreographer James Reed earned considerable acting credits prior to directing and is also a multiple Willie Award winner for choreography. He directed last season’s popular “Spamalot.” Assisting him will be Christopher “CJ” Martin as Assistant Director and Jennifer Hargreaves as Assistant Choreographer. Jon Robinson is Musical Director, with Paul Kimball conducting a live orchestra. The elaborate Broadway-style set is designed by New York based scenic designer Kenichi Takahashi.
