Stockton Is Magnificent Location Change

At the first planning session of 2014 the Stockton is Magnificent Committee voted to move the annual event from the Miracle Mile to Victory Park to allow for more space, more shade, and the support of the Haggin Museum in providing Stockton’s history to the community. “We are excited to plan an event that celebrates the positive aspects of our great city with one of our most valued treasures: The Haggin Museum! The museum will offer free admission the day of the event as well as house the annual Stockton Authors, while the park will provide room for the children’s parade, two entertainment stages, one hundred nonprofit booths, local hero awards, food truck round-up, an artist alley, an agriculture alley, and lots of new activities we have planned”, explained the nonprofit’s president, Denise Jefferson.

This is the fourth year for the annual event which began as a response to Forbes Magazine’s naming Stockton the Most Miserable City in 2011, and is now a celebration of all the positive aspects that Stockton offers to its citizens. “Admittedly there are many problems that our city has faced and is facing, but a city is more than politics, finances, and structures. A city is the people and the organizations they represent, and Stockton has some pretty magnificent people and organizations that should be showcased and celebrated”, added Ms. Jefferson.

The 2014 event is titled ‘Celebrate Stockton: Past + Present = Future’ and is planned for Saturday, October 4th from noon to 3 PM. Organizations and individuals who wish to participate in the free event are encouraged to contact Miranda Winters at [email protected]. To participate in the planning of the event residents of all ages are encouraged to join the committee at the next planning meeting, Monday March 3rd, 6:00 PM at The Studio Room behind Green’s Nutrition, 1924 Pacific Avenue.
