The City of Stockton has recently announced the selection of an interim Fire Chief who will lead the department while the City launches a nationwide search and recruitment for a permanent replacement for Chief Jeff Piechura who announced his departure in April. Interim Chief Bill Weisgerber will join the City of Stockton leadership team.
“I look forward to supporting the community and lending my professional expertise to the success of the Stockton Fire Department and the City during this transition period,” said Chief Weisgerber. “Serving as Interim Chief for Stockton is a great fit with my background and experience. For the last 10 years, I’ve been consulting with cities, counties and special districts, in urban and rural areas, connecting sub-regional, regional and state programs and services to effectively support organizations. Working together, we can strengthen the department for the benefit of public safety.”
Chief Weisgerber has over 40 years of experience in the fire service in California. He was promoted through the ranks at the City of Milpitas from 1974 to 2005 to the position of Fire Chief, a position he held from 1998 to 2005. Since 2005, he has worked in various interim Fire Chief and executive positions, and as a consultant, most recently in the cities of Davis and West Sacramento.
“We are very pleased that Bill will be working with us,” said Laurie Montes. “He has a great reputation for his collaborative style and success in working with agencies to resolve complex issues, not to mention his knowledge of fire service, emergency response, and developing the best possible solutions for delivering services with constrained resources.”
