Stockton Shelter for the Homeless is celebrating the opening of a brand new playground at their campus in downtown Stockton with a party featuring food, games, a bounce house, face painting and more! The event will be held at the new playground behind the Family Shelter on Saturday, August 22nd from 11a – 2p and is open to the public.
Through funds donated by longtime Shelter supporters Guido and Patricia Marengo, Stockton Shelter for the Homeless was able to purchase a new playground to replace one that was in disrepair and no longer safe for use. Volunteers from Sierra Service Project donated their time and expertise to install the new playground and get it ready for the dozens of homeless children that live at the Shelter. “We are so excited to be able to provide a safe place for our kids to play”, said Stockton Shelter CEO Adam Cheshire. “We couldn’t have done it without the incredible generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Marengo”. In addition to the playground, the Marengo’s donation paid for two single-family rooms to be refurbished at the Family Shelter, including new beds, mattresses, blinds, flooring and paint.
Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, Stockton Shelter for the Homeless is the largest emergency shelter in San Joaquin County and one of the largest in Northern California, providing shelter and other services to over 350 homeless individuals each day. Nearly 30% of those are children. For more information on how you can get involved, please visit their website at stocktonshelter.org or call (209) 465-3612.
