Stockton Thunder Announces 2013-14 Schedule

Thunder hosting 31 of 36 home games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday

The Stockton Thunder, a two time recipient of the ECHL “Award of Excellence,” announced its 2013-14 regular season schedule today and will raise its 2013 Western Conference championship banner on Opening Night, Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. against the Colorado Eagles at Stockton Arena.

The Thunder, preparing for its ninth season of hockey in the Central Valley, drew over 250,000 fans to Stockton Arena last season and also had 11 crowds of 6,000 or more. A total of 18 sellout crowds have filed through the Stockton Arena turnstiles since 2005-06.

The 2013-14 schedule highlights many popular Thunder games on weekends featuring 31 of 36 Thunder home games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Thunder home games will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 4:00 p.m. on Sunday and 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday.

At home, the Thunder will play eight games on Friday, 13 games on Saturday and 10 games on Sunday.

SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN
Rivalries within the Western Conference will also be emphasized on the 2013-14 schedule which lasts 72 games. The Thunder will face the San Francisco Bulls, its closest Pacific Division rival located just 88 miles away, the most out of any opponent for a total of 15 matchups during the season.

San Francisco makes its first visit to Stockton Arena on Monday, Nov. 11 for a special 5:00 p.m. start on Veterans Day.

Fans looking for a glimpse of playoff rematches from last season can see the Thunder host the Idaho Steelheads at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 in the first meeting since last season’s Western Conference Final. The Thunder battles the Alaska Aces (a rematch of the Western Conference Semifinal) in its first matchup at Stockton Arena of the season on Sunday, Mar. 2 at 4:00 p.m. The two teams will battle in their first meeting of the season in Alaska on Friday, Feb. 7. At 8:15 p.m.

In a rematch of the seven-game Western Conference Quarterfinal from last season, the Thunder hosts the Las Vegas Wranglers for the first of three matchups on Saturday, Mar. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

PROMOTION AND EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

“Thunder Goes Pink VIII,” the flagship event of all Thunder community initiatives during the hockey season, is scheduled for November 1-2 at Stockton Arena against the Utah Grizzlies. The wildly popular event continued to help spotlight and raise funds to benefit local breast cancer treatment and prevention this past season, raising over $30,000 to benefit the St. Joseph’s Foundation – Breast Cancer Services. The Thunder has raised over $257,000 to touch hearts and lives through “Pink,” since the event began in 2006-07.

More information on the upcoming season’s promotion and giveaway schedule will be announced soon.
