The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders and AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have announced per Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm the signing of forward Tyler Maxwell.
“Tyler had a great junior career with Everett and Edmonton,” Kromm said. “He was able to showcase his great offensive talent there, as well as this past season in Italy. Tyler wants to make an impact in professional hockey, and wants to do it in North America.”
Maxwell, 23, began his professional career in 2012-13 with EC Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian Hockey League before combining for 37 games for the Utah Grizzlies, Bakersfield Condors, and Ontario Reign during the same season.
The Manhattan Beach, CA native went back to Europe during the 2013-14 campaign to play for HC Valpellice in Italy’s top division Serie A1. Maxwell picked up 20 goals and 26 assists in 32 Serie A1 games along with 5 points in four Italian Cup games.
Maxwell’s junior career saw him play three full seasons with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL before being acquired midway through his fourth season by the Edmonton Oil Kings. The forward helped the Oil Kings win the Ed Chynoweth Cup (WHL Champion) in the 2011-12 season. Maxwell’s team fell to the eventual Memorial Cup Champions, the Shawinigan Cataractes, in the tiebreaker game of the Memorial Cup playoff round.
Although he had his best team success with the Oil Kings, Maxwell ranks high on the Everett Silvertips All-Time lists for individual statistics ranking first All-Time in goals (107), fourth in points (195), eighth in games played (216) and eighth in assists (88).
