Tiger Nick Pasichuke Injured In Isla Vista Attacks

A University of the Pacific student was badly injured in the tragedy that took six lives in Isla Vista on Friday. Nicholas Pasichuke, a member of the Pacific men's water polo team, was among 13 people injured during the attacks. Pasichuke was struck by the gunman's car and remains in the hospital with serious injuries.

"We are extremely relieved that Nick is going to be able to pull through this tragedy, but we know he has a long road of recovery," said Pacific head water polo coach James Graham. "Our heart goes out to the families of the victims of this tragedy. Nick is a strong young man, and he'll have the full support of myself, the team and the University as he makes his way back."

Pasichuke, of Alamo, just completed his freshman year. He is majoring in business. He has received an outpouring of support from family, teammates and classmates over the Memorial Day weekend. The hashtag #PrayForCheeks has been established to share well wishes and updates.

"Our hearts go out to Nick and his family, the UC Santa Barbara community, and to all the families and friends of those who died in this tragedy," said University of the Pacific President Pamela A. Eibeck. "We were shaken to hear the news that Nick was injured in this horrific incident and I wish him a speedy and full recovery."

Nick played in four games for the Tigers in 2013 as a freshman. Pasichuke came to Tigers out of San Ramon Valley High School in Danville. As a senior, he earned First Team All-East Bay Athletic League and First Team All-North Coast Section honors, leading the Wolves to 20 wins and a runner-up finish. He racked up 85 goals, 23 assists, 68 steals and 25 drawn ejections as a senior, and earned NCS Scholar-Athlete honors twice.
