Trophy-size Trout Caught at Oak Grove Regional Park

Both fish largest in 11-year tournament history

Two anglers, David Lee (left in picture), of Stockton and Kenneth Chen of Elk Grove, caught a couple big fish during last Saturday’s Bob McMillen Memorial Fishing Tournament at Oak Grove Regional Park in Stockton.  

Lee’s catch weighed 13.4 lbs. while Chen’s catch topped 12.8 lbs., both were the highest recorded sizes in the tournament’s 11-year history.  Both Rainbow Trout were caught on Powerbait.   

Lee’s catch took 1st place in the Adult category, while Chen placed second. Third place went to Dominque Richmond of Stockton, with a trout weighing 4 lbs, 14.5 oz. Other winners were Youth category: 1st place - Elias Jimenez of Stockton (3 lbs., 15.8 oz.), 2nd place – Jesse Limas of Stockton (2 lbs., 7.3 oz.) and 3rd place – Truc Vu of Stockton (2 lbs., 6 oz.); and Teen category: 1st place – Mia Marquez of Stockton (2 lbs., 6.3 oz.), 2nd place – Jonathan Castanon of Stockton (2 lbs., 6 oz.) and 3rd place – Hezaki Robinson of Stockton (2 lbs., 0.11 oz).   

San Joaquin County Parks planted 2,500 lbs of trout prior to Saturday’s tournament, with several hundred pounds deemed “trophy size,” usually weighing in between 3 to 9 lbs. each.

Oak Grove Regional Park, located on Eight Mile Road and Interstate 5, is open to fishing year round.  A $5 fishing permit fee and valid California Fishing License is required for anyone sixteen (16) years of age or older. Vehicle parking fees are $5 weekdays, $6 most weekends.  All State Fish and Game laws apply.
