U.S. Air Force Jazz Band "The Commanders" soars into Atherton Auditorium for a FREE Concert, April 14

The United States Air Force Jazz Ensemble "The Commanders" with guest artists Diane Schuur, will touchdown in Stockton on Sunday, April 14, 3 p.m., for an inspirational FREE concert at Delta College’s beautiful Atherton Auditorium. The concert is free, but tickets are required and will be available at the Delta College Center for the Arts Box Office, (209) 954-5110.

Be forewarned…the tickets won’t last long! Limit: 6 per customer.

The Commanders, a newly-revived ensemble coming from the US Air Force Band of the Golden West, carries on the American musical tradition of the great big bands, yet offers a lot more than the big band sounds. This energetic group of highly-trained professional musicians, formed from 18 Airmen, delivers the full gamut of jazz music - traditional jazz, cool, bop, swing, Broadway favorites, and patriotic music. The Commanders offers an entertaining show you won't soon forget!

A typical evening with The Commanders might include favorites from Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Count Basie, and Dizzy Gillespie to the sounds of today's modern jazz groups delivered by the group's enchantingly talented vocalist. Their renditions of hot jazz feature rousing improvised solos from every instrument in the group. This is an ensemble capable of delivering a truly unique combination of entertainment.

In addition to enjoyable community concerts and jazz festivals, the group visits colleges and schools throughout the region, inspiring future generations of musicians and connecting with youth.

This year, The Commanders are joined by acclaimed jazz vocalist/pianist Diane Schuur. Diane Schuur is as eclectic as she is brilliant. A longtime disciple of Dinah Washington and other legendary jazz singers of the ‘40s and ‘50s, Schuur has built a stellar career by embracing not only the jazz of her parents’ generation, but also the pop music of her own youth during the late 1950s and ‘60s. In a recording career that spans nearly three decades – and includes two Grammy Awards and three Grammy nominations – Schuur’s music has explored nearly every corner of the 20th century American musical landscape.

The Commanders and Diane Schuur are ready to charge you up with a fun-filled afternoon of jazz that will satisfy every musical taste! Don’t miss this rousing FREE concert, April 14, 3 p.m. at Atherton Auditorium!
