Utica Releases Irwin from Tryout Contract
Forward Brayden Irwin returns to Stockton after playing 5 games with Comets in AHL.
The AHL’s Utica Comets have released Brayden Irwin from his professional tryout contract, meaning the forward will return to Stockton. Irwin played in 5 games with the Comets, registering 0 points after being called up to the AHL on October 25th.
Irwin played in Stockton’s first two games of the season, getting off to a great start in his first game with the Thunder by scoring a goal and adding an assist. He also has 5 shots and 2 penalty minutes in his two ECHL contests this year.
The 26-year-old Toronto, Ontario native has played at least part of the previous two seasons in the ECHL posting 62 points (32 goals, 30 assists) in 77 career regular season contests. He also won a Kelly Cup in 2012 with the Florida Everblades helping lead the team to the title with 13 points in 17 playoff games.
The former University of Vermont player turned pro at the end of the 2010 season playing two games in the NHL with his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Irwin has spent at least one game in the AHL every season in his four full years of professional hockey.
Irwin could be in the line-up when the Thunder head back to Bakersfield for an odd 10:30 a.m. start on Thursday. No rest for the team as they turn back to Stockton to play game 8 of 16 on Friday on home ice against the Ontario Reign at 7:30. As part of the “Sharing & Caring” event, the team will be collecting gently used and new winter coats, blankets, and new packs of socks from fans to be handed out to people in need.
